Puerto Maldonado: located in the south-eastern part of Peru on the banks of the Madre de Dios River, in the Peruvian Amazon. It is the capital of the Madre de Dios region and the province of Tambopata.
Explorer´s Inn: one of the oldest eco-hostels in the rainforest of Peru and a great base for discovering the natural wonders of the Great Amazon. The site of sustainable ecotourism, where biological research takes place, is located directly in the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most biologically diverse protected areas in the world.
Single, double and triple rooms in bungalows are offered.
Meals: (breakfast, lunch, dinner) meets all the conditions for ayahuasca diet and yoga retreats, so it is largely vegan and vegetarian, with a balanced range of fish and poultry.
About the organizers:
Zuzka Bartáková (Whatsapp +420 607650787): cestujemepoperu.cz/nas-pribeh/
Martina Doležalová (Whatsapp +420 731127528): www.martinadolezalova.cz
The retreat program combines traditional Hatha yoga practice and relaxing yoga styles (yoga nidra, yin yoga, restorative yoga) with deep spiritual purification and knowledge of the Amazon jungle. While Zuzka arranges the presentation of the jungle and its beauties, Martina leads yoga lessons as well as a chocolate ritual, a purification ritual with palo santo (sandalwood) and other.
Thanks to the cooperation with the local shaman Gil, those interested will also be able to experience deep spiritual knowledge through ayahuasca ceremonies, right in the middle of the virgin jungle in the reserve.
The program also includes a visit to the native community www.eseeja.org
The participation in the deeply cognitive ayahuasca rituals requires some preparation, so it is absolutely essential that everyone who wants to participate in these rituals (it is possible not to pay and omit them) to notify Martina in advance of:
- All currently used drugs,
- All operations and important interventions that have taken place in the last quarter of the year,
- All heart operations and other major operations,
- All dysfunctions physical and mental.
The use of drugs and pharmaceuticals such as antidepressants, etc., cardiac devices and similar devices are completely eliminated with the use of the madre medicine, “soul vines”.
Before the actual trip, there will be an online meeting for the retreat participants via Google Meet, where important instructions and information will be provided. The date and time of the meeting will be specified.
Program in detail:
Sunday: From Puerto Maldonado Airport, we set out for a brief survey of the city centre and lunch, and from there a boat visit to the Amazon Shelter – a jungle wildlife rescue station founded by dedicated Mrs. Magala, who will guide us through the station and introduce us to the fates of the individual animals and the animal protection issues in the Amazon. This is followed by a transfer to the accommodation, dinner and a welcome ritual.
Monday: Breakfast, guided meditation, relaxation (the possibility of swimming in the river, individual walks, etc.), noon yoga (since we are close to the equator and the sun rises and sets here at about the same time, noon yoga has a strong charging effect of solar energy), lunch, afternoon siesta (space for own activities) and around half past four an educational walk to the local tower and observing sunset and life in the night jungle. After dinner, treat yourself to a relaxing and healing yoga nidra session.
Tuesday: A short early morning trip (at dawn) to a parrot clay cliff. This is followed by yoga, breakfast and a visit to a local farm on the other side of the river, where we will taste some interesting fruits, including avocados, cocoa beans, etc. We will have the opportunity to pick and buy fruit to taste. We will then continue down the river (about an hour’s drive) to the Ese Eja community, where we will be able to buy handcrafted products, such as earrings or seed necklaces, including the popular protective huaruro, and where we will have lunch.
After this trip, we will have an afternoon yoga, a short walk to the so-called Sunset Point, from where it is possible to watch beautiful sunsets over the confluence of the Tambopata and La Torre rivers and dinner. We will end the day with a unique experience, when after dinner we will go on a night boat trip upstream of the Tambopata River (bungalows are located about 100 m from the river) to observe caimans (about half an hour). After observing several protected species of caimans, we turn off the ship’s engine and all the lights and will be drifted back downstream. Under the shining night sky, we will listen to the sounds of the jungle and perceive its tremendous, pulsating, healing energy in quiet silence.
Wednesday: After an early breakfast, we set out for Lake Cocococha (and canoeing), where unique huge otters can be seen. On the way back we will discover the medicinal herbs of the Amazon, from sangre de drago to chuchuwasi. We will also taste the cordoncillo (when we literally have a wooden mouth for a few minutes – they use the local plant as an anaesthetics for toothache), we will try quinine (which belongs to the Peru emblem), we will drink water from bamboo. Lunch is followed by individual relaxation, evening yoga, dinner and a cleansing ritual with palo santo and spiritual and mental preparation for ayahuasca ceremony.
Thursday: After a very modest breakfast we will have an all-day ayahuasca ceremony (lunch is not served, but we will drink a lot of water, which we will work with during the day as an element of yin energy compensating for the day’s solar energy); after the ceremony, we will treat ourselves to a cleansing bath in the river and a plentiful dinner.
Friday: Morning restorative yoga, breakfast, pleasant and easy jungle walk to Lake Tres Chimbadas or along the La Torre river, lunch, relaxation or sleep, light soup for dinner, night ayahuasca ceremony (we will work with the energy of the night, which we will be polarized on the altar with candles which represent the fiery yang energy – large fires are not allowed in the reservation) ending at midnight.
Saturday: After a hearty breakfast we will have the space to spend the whole day as anyone wishes; it can be used for contemplation and rest or individual walks. Lunch and dinner will be served at standard times. Yoga lessons await us in the afternoon, followed by a cocoa ritual (here, please, whoever plays a musical instrument that can be transported, bring it, we will create music for drinking the cocoa together).
Sunday: Breakfast, individual activities, yoga, lunch, individual activities, early evening yoga, dinner, farewell ritual.
Monday: Departure for Puerto Maldonado Airport in the morning after breakfast.
Note: Around the accommodation (bungalows) there is a network of trails, which can be walked alone or with Zuzka as a guide. It is an alternative for those who would like to skip some ceremonies or request extra activities.
As we will be staying in the reserve, all the cosmetics you use will leave a mark on the river, etc.; ideally, take only those products that are biodegradable with you. However, we do recommend a strong repellent, even chemical, also incense sticks with lemon grass etc.
